HATAY – On 17 September 2026, practical weaving workshops were held in both Antakya and Samandağ as part of the traditional weaving courses jointly organized by the Tohumluk Foundation, Antakya Municipality, Samandağ Municipality, the Nedime Keser Public Education Center, and the Samandağ Public Education Center.

The initiative aims to preserve Hatay's rich weaving tradition, support women's participation in production, and pass traditional craftsmanship on to future generations.

In Antakya, the workshops were attended by Selahattin Öztürk, Deputy Mayor of Antakya, Funda Yapar, spouse of the Mayor, Mehmet Keskin, Director of the Nedime Keser Public Education Center, and Barış Körkü, Deputy Director.

On the same day, the workshop in Tomruksuyu, Samandağ, welcomed Mayor Emrah Karaçay and Deputy Mayor Talay Tunç, who met with participants, observed the weaving process, and learned about the ongoing training activities.

The workshops were led by Devlet Sarıseçkin, volunteer of the Tohumluk Foundation and master weaving instructor, together with master instructor Mucibe Oruç. Participants received hands-on training in traditional weaving techniques while also discussing the importance of preserving cultural heritage, supporting women's craftsmanship, and strengthening local production.

At the Tohumluk Foundation, we believe that traditional crafts are more than a cultural legacy. They are also powerful tools for women's empowerment, sustainable local development, and community resilience.

Through our partnerships in Hatay, we remain committed to preserving traditional weaving, supporting local artisans, and creating opportunities that enable cultural heritage to continue as a living tradition.

We extend our sincere thanks to Antakya Municipality, Samandağ Municipality, the Nedime Keser and Samandağ Public Education Centers, our master instructors, and every participant whose dedication keeps Hatay's weaving tradition alive.

Together, we continue weaving a stronger future by preserving the heritage of the past.
