HASAT: Weaving Heritage into the Future

HASAT is Tohumluk Foundation’s signature initiative dedicated to preserving Anatolia’s rich textile heritage while creating sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.

Inspired by the belief that cultural heritage should be lived rather than simply preserved, the project brings together traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design and social entrepreneurship. It transforms local knowledge, forgotten patterns and time-honoured techniques into modern fashion that speaks to today’s world.

In recent years, traditional Anatolian garments such as the şalvar have inspired collections by international fashion brands. Rather than watching this heritage be reinterpreted elsewhere, Tohumluk Foundation chose to celebrate its origins by collaborating with designers, artisans and local producers to create an authentic collection rooted in Anatolian culture.

Designed by our volunteer fashion designer Mine Gökbüget Erbek, the HASAT Collection reimagines traditional textiles and motifs through a contemporary aesthetic while preserving their cultural identity. The collection was introduced to the public through the HASAT Fashion Show, where professional models presented garments inspired by the craftsmanship, colours and stories of rural Anatolia.

Beyond fashion, HASAT is a platform for cultural preservation, rural development and women’s economic empowerment. The project supports local artisans, promotes sustainable production practices and demonstrates how traditional knowledge can become a driver of innovation and inclusive economic growth.

Revenue generated through the HASAT Collection directly supports Tohumluk Foundation’s educational, cultural, artistic and rural development programmes, ensuring that every purchase contributes to creating new opportunities for communities across rural Türkiye.

At its heart, HASAT is more than a fashion collection—it is a celebration of identity, craftsmanship and the enduring dialogue between rural and urban, tradition and innovation, past and future.

Activities

Today, as people migrate from rural communities to cities, they leave behind more than their land, seeds and traditional way of life. Traditional garments are carefully folded into old wooden chests, gradually disappearing from everyday life—and from memory.

As urban lifestyles become increasingly uniform, we begin to lose the distinctive clothing that once reflected our regional identities, the craftsmanship behind each piece and the stories, traditions and meanings they carried. In doing so, we risk losing far more than fabric; we lose a vital part of our cultural identity, our shared heritage and the collective memory that connects generations.
