From Tradition to the Future: Our Weaving Courses Have Begun in Hatay

HATAY – The Tohumluk Foundation has officially launched its traditional weaving courses in Antakya and Samandağ, aiming to empower women, preserve the region’s rich weaving heritage, and promote sustainable local production.

Implemented in cooperation with the Municipalities of Antakya and Samandağ and the Public Education Centers, the program provides women with opportunities to learn traditional weaving techniques while developing practical skills that can be transformed into economic opportunities.

Led by master weaving instructor Mucibe Oruç, the courses offer hands-on training where participants gain experience in traditional weaving methods while discovering the craftsmanship, patience, and creativity behind this centuries-old cultural heritage. The products created throughout the program are expected to contribute both to preserving traditional craftsmanship and to strengthening women’s participation in production and local economies.

At the Tohumluk Foundation, we believe that traditional handicrafts are more than cultural treasures from the past. They are powerful tools for sustainable development, women’s empowerment, and the preservation of local identity.

Through strong partnerships with local governments, public institutions, and dedicated volunteers, we continue to implement projects that create lasting social impact. This weaving initiative represents another important step toward safeguarding Hatay’s rich textile heritage while creating new opportunities for women.
