Purpose of the Committee

The Agriculture and Environment Committee works in line with the mission and values of Tohumluk Foundation to help reduce rural poverty and deprivation, strengthen rural livelihoods and build meaningful connections between rural and urban communities through sustainable agriculture, food systems and responsible production.

 

Committee Responsibilities

The Committee shall:

  1. Build strong relationships with rural communities and encourage active community participation.

  2. Organize training programmes, field demonstrations and practical workshops based on the needs identified by rural communities.

  3. Promote the revival of the traditional culture of imece (collective community cooperation) as a means of reducing production costs and strengthening community resilience.

  4. Foster awareness of responsible production and responsible consumption by promoting the principles of conscious producers and informed consumers.

  5. Collaborate with the Education Committee to introduce young people in rural communities to career opportunities in agriculture, food systems, seed conservation and related fields through expert-led educational programmes.

  6. Support the establishment and strengthening of agricultural cooperatives and contribute to the revitalization of inactive cooperatives.

  7. Develop awareness campaigns aimed at reducing food loss and waste and encouraging the sustainable use of natural resources.

  8. Promote awareness of soil conservation and the importance of protecting agricultural land for future generations.

 

Committee Operations

The Committee shall:

  1. Hold weekly meetings via Zoom.

  2. Share meeting decisions with Committee members through the official WhatsApp group and with the Board of Directors.

  3. Organize visits to agricultural institutions, organizations, farms, research centres and other relevant sites.

  4. Prepare project proposals for activities planned in rural communities and submit them to the Board of Directors for approval.

  5. Coordinate and implement projects approved by the Board of Directors in accordance with the Foundation’s objectives and strategic priorities.
