We are gifting copies of the book "From Spark to Flame," the proceeds of which were donated to our Foundation by Dr. Serra Menekay, a founding member and volunteer of our Foundation and our Provincial Representative for Izmir, to our supporters who donate 500 TL or more .

"From Spark to Flame" is my book, published in 2019, which tells the story of the National Forces (Kuvayı Milliye) that spontaneously formed in the Aegean region after the imperialist occupation... "From Spark to Flame" was published on the centenary of the founding of the National Forces... That year was also the year the Tohumluk Foundation was established.
In the book's afterword, I wrote: “So why did I write this book? My answer is very simple; because I can. Because instead of constantly complaining and overwhelming myself and those around me with my whining, I chose to ask, ‘What can I do?’ And my answer was, ‘I can write…’ Now, ask yourselves; what can you do? Everyone can do something. Everyone can and should produce something. This is both your debt to this country and nation that raised you, and the way to self-realization… If you have no answer, or haven't yet, stop criticizing, complaining, whining, lamenting, and blaming everything on the ‘ignorant masses’… Believe me, even this will lessen your unhappiness. If you really want to do something, I'm sure you will find what it is… We owe at least this to our ancestors who left us a fully independent country to live on, don't we?”
And I dedicated "From Spark to Flame" to "all the heroes, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who dedicated their lives to the war against imperialism and ignorance for the independence and development of this country."
Around the time the book was published, people who were finding and doing what they could do for this country, for nature, for the environment, and for a more hopeful future, spontaneously came together under the umbrella of the Seed Foundation with the spirit of the National Resistance Movement.
“From Spark to Flame” was about sowing the seeds of the past for the future. It was a “seed” foundation. That’s why I wanted them to grow together and walk towards the future together. Every book you buy will be a donation to the Seed Foundation. The Inventions of a Photographer: From the Selfie to the Studio Camera
This unique publication tells the inspiring story of Fikret Kaftanoğlu—a photographer, inventor and patent holder whose remarkable achievements came despite the limited educational opportunities of the final years of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Republic of Türkiye.
Among his inventions were the Görçek camera, a mirror condenser, an earthquake warning device, an automatic fire extinguisher, a film cartridge system and Türkiye’s first studio camera, along with several other patented innovations that reflected his extraordinary creativity and determination.
Researched and written by Uğur Kavas with the contributions of Sabahattin Ergin, the book sheds light on a little-known pioneer whose work stands alongside other visionary Turkish innovators such as Nuri Demirağ and Vecihi Hürkuş.
Published in a limited edition to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, the book was made possible through the generous support of Tohumluk Foundation volunteer and Supervisory Board Member Murat Çevik and his family. All proceeds from the publication have been donated to Tohumluk Foundation to support initiatives that encourage young people to pursue science, innovation and research in memory of Fikret Kaftanoğlu.
